2024 Bi-State Cup Champions Forces on the Fairways Veterans Golf League
Each year, a “Battle for the Bi-State Cup” will take place between two Veterans focused organizations. The friendly combatants are the Forces on the Fairways Veterans Golf League (a project of The Palozola Foundation based in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area) and Arlington Greens Veterans Golf Association (AGVGA) based across the Mississippi River in Granite City, Illinois.
Both organizations have chosen “golf” as a vehicle to help area Veterans. Both sponsor separate golf leagues with 100+ players each throughout the summer. This is an opportunity for Veterans to play golf, tell war stories and gather in a safe, fun environment with camaraderie and understanding. These leagues are provided at no cost for players. The regular play in the leagues is augmented with teaching clinics which focuses on helping handicapped golfers learn to play and improve their games.
This “Battle” mimics a Ryder Cup style event with 6, 2-man teams playing 3-hole matches of “Best Ball”, “Alternate Shot” and “One-on-One Match Play”. Points for each team are accumulated based on the matches played over a total of 9 holes.
At the end of the day, one of the two organizations will walk away as the winner of what has become a “Prestigious” Bi-State Cup! The cup is a perpetual memorial of the annual battle with the name of the winner engraved thereon. The real winners though are Veterans on both sides of the river!
“TO HEAL VETERANS IN BODY, MIND & SPIRIT, THROUGH GOLF.”
